2022 July 14
Got a Gary mango seed from the California Rare Fruit Growers Arizona Scion’s 2022 annual mango tasting meeting.
2022 July 15
The seed was dehusked and put in a 6” pot, tail just protruding above the soil, with a mix of big box potting mix and coconut core while a hole was prepared. The pot was placed under shade cloth outside.

Moved the seed from the pot to a hole 2’ wide and 2’ deep where the backfill was amended with ~50% compost. The polyembryonic seed had germinated and had about 3 inches of root. After separating one of the embryos that was loose, both parts were planted with tails just protruding above the soil on a slight mound about 3” tall. The smaller single embryo was planted to the south west of the larger embryo. The core/potting soil mix from the pot was placed in a well in the center of the mound.

The larger segment of the seed sprouted. The bird net was there because I was paranoid about curved bill thrashers digging up the seed.

2022 August 11

2022 October 6
Foliar fed 2.3g of 13% manganese chelate in 1 quart of water at 6:30a (sunrise)

2022 October 10
Foliar fed Greenlife’s foliar feed mixed 1 tablespoon per gallon plus a little bit of Soil Fertility Accelerator at 6:15am. I also applied SFA to the soil and watered it in.

There was one freeze this year that I forgot to cover this plant. Don’t know if it will make it. There is still some green on the trunk.

This one didn’t make it. It needed a lot more shade.
