2022 September 24

Put grass barrier around the tree and landscape fabric over the grass. Hoping to shade out the grass and nutsedge.

2023 August 7

The grafted part of this tree is very crispy. I’m sure it is dead, but the root stalk is putting on new growth. Maybe I can put new grafts on it.

The whole front yard was covered in wood chips this summer and there was nothing big enough to give this plant afternoon shade. I think that is why the graft died.

2023 October 19

I ordered bud wood from the CCPP. I made my variety selections based on this and this.

2023 October 25

I cut the stump below the original graft and found that most of the center of the wood was dead. I cut it again a few inches lower and there was less dead wood in the center. I bark grafted one of each of the scions I ordered.

2023 November 14

I unwrapped the grafts 3 weeks later and two of the scions haven’t turned black yet. 🤞

2023 December 22

All the grafts are dead and there is no signs of new growth from the root stalk. I think this one is dead.
