I bought a “starter” size Barbados Cherry labeled Florida Sweet in a tiny pot from Tropica Mango.

I planted it in the front yard. I didn’t amend the soil. I only dug a hole big enough for the root ball. Then put 6 plus inches of mulch around it. And a piece of ply wood for afternoon shade. The plywood is too much shade. I plan to replace it with 30% shade soon.

I replaced the plywood with a 33% shade structure.

2023 July 27

This plant has been doing well and with relatively little shade. It still has the shade structure pictured above. I have been pinching the tip of the branches as it grows to promote more branching. I also just tied the two main branches so they are horizontal. This should promote even more branching from the lower nodes. I want this plant to be as bushy as possible.

This plant suddenly turned crispy. Maybe it was because I bent the branches over? I have no idea.
