I bought a lychee from Green Life Nursery for $125.

Planted in the front yard against a wall of the house with a western exposure and under a pair of moringa. I drilled a 3 food deep 2 inch diameter hole in the bottom of the planting hole and back filled it with biochar and native soil. I also layered biochar in the backfill for the planting hole. The planting hole was only slightly bigger than the pot the tree was in. I watered it in with SFA and vitamin B1.

2023 November 7

I covered the plant with frost cloth and put a string of incandescent C9 lights under the frost cloth on a thermostat set to 50F.

2024 March 3

At some point during the winter I did some reading and found that these trees come from a climate with winters not too different from Phoenix so I bumped the thermostat down to the high 30s (F). It seems to have done well with this and is putting out new growth. The tree is under the eaves and we got rain consistently through the winter. No obvious sines of wet feet though.
