Propagation
Seed
K-Rimes reports 100% success with putting seeds with shell on in pots, keeping them watered and over wintering them in his greenhouse that never drops below 34F.
This paper suggests removing shell and warm stratify 8 weeks at 20-30C then cold stratify 8 weeks at 5C then plant at 20-30C. Some seeds may germinate during stratification.
Grafting
myrica cerifera is the best rootstock so far[1], but is also graft compatible with myrica pensylvanica, rubra, cerifera, and californica.[1]
Hard to graft. Approach graft is the easiest.
K-Rimes reports success grafting with smaller then pencil thick scions. Larger diameter has not worked for him.[1]
