Cuttings

Video description: Cuttings from 1-2 year old wood where the wood has just hardened off (bark turned brown instead of green). They will be thinner than a toothpick. Cut just below a node and remove one pair of leaves. Keep the rest of the leaves on the cutting. Scrape bark off the end of the cutting with finger nail. Dip in fresh lemon or lime juice (this neutralizes the basic substance that wounds emit). Then dip in Hormex #16 (1.6% IBA). Split a moistened Root Riot plug in half and insert treated end of cutting. Place plug in a seedling tray. Place seedling tray on top of moist to the touch peat moss filled undivided tray. Cover with a humidity dome. Open the vents in the top of the humidity dome. Place in bright open shade under a tree where the dome will never get direct sunlight. If the dome needs rehydrating don’t water the plugs. Instead water the peat under the seedling trays with pH neutral water (rain, RO, distilled) and cover with the dome.
