Avocado (persea americana)

Pruning

Flower bud differentiation begins in the fall. At the point the tree begins to store nutrients in its branches to prepare for fruiting. Pruning between differentiation and flowering can hurt production.[1]

Propagation

Grafting

Scion wood should be relatively thick and have well developed buds that are ready to push.[1]

When grafting on a seedling it is better if the seedling has at least one nurse leaf below the graft, but don’t let any buds grow below the graft.[1]

Stretch the grafting tape before trying to wrap the scion otherwise it is easy to break the scion while wrapping.[1]

Protect the scion from direct sunlight.[1]
