Starfruit (averrhoa carambola)

Fruit are available in grocery stores August-March.[1] They have several seeds each!

  • Arkin
    • week taste[1]
  • B10
    • week taste[1]
  • Bell
    • may tolerate Phoenix soil better than other varieties[1]
    • Like a few hours of shade in the afternoon.[1]
    • Don’t like too much wind nor temps below 27f[1]
    • may be more cold hardy than other varieties[1]
    • may be less vigorous than other varieties[1]
  • Fwang Tung (I like the flavor better than Kari)
  • Kari
    • soft flesh when ripe not crisp[1]
  • Sri Kembangan
    • may be less cold tolerant than other varieties[1]
    • dark with good flavor[1]
Rootstock
  • Golden Star
    • May perform better in calcareous/high-pH soils (above 7)[1,2,3,4]
